Don't Be Afraid of Termites!

Professional Building SolutionsTermites are colonies of bugs that love to snack on wood. For this reason, one of their most common targets are houses. They are pretty much harmless to humans, but the amount of damage they can cause a house if left untreated is substantial and will ruin the house’s value. Trying to sell a house that has termites is like trying to sell a car that doesn’t run. It is very hard to do. Getting these annoyances treated as soon as possible should be your top priority when you find out that you have them. As mentioned, if left untreated, you are in for a more costly repair than just getting rid of the termites and going on your way. If you’ve had them for a while, chances are you will have to replace a few things and end up costing yourself more than you would have if you had acted sooner.

Imagine Having a Couple of Barbecue Grills

One of the great things about having a big backyard that has been landscaped is that it gives you an excuse to have get togethers. Imagine having a couple of barbecue grills back there for the big game and being able to cook up some amazing steaks and burgers for your friends. Maybe you are not into sports, but love to have big cookouts at your house. This is also another reason to put in a good deck for your yard so that you have the space for it. In fact, some people will go as far as installing a little kitchen area in the back yard they get so into having cookouts. For anyone who is a foody barbequing can be an amazing way to eat food. That smoky flavor and barbeque sauce can be tough to resist. And all of this in a beautifully manicured and sculpted backyard landscape.

Decomposition in Organic Farming

Decomposition is essential in organic farming as the breakdown of organic materials improves the quality of the soil which in turn helps the plants grow healthier. There are species of insects that thrive in farms to help produce nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus, and trace elements from organic matter during the process of decomposition.

Arthropod species feed on dead or decaying plants and animals and feast on the microorganisms that these materials contain. With this, they are called decomposers contributing nutrients to the soil with their waste products or their body when they die. Common arthropods present in most farms are burying beetles, fly larvae, mites, millipedes, springtails, and spiders.

In organic farming, a well-aerated soil has the presence of oxygen that helps the decomposition of organic matters to occur faster. This process of increasing organic matters in the soil is done along with the use of compost, cover crops, green manure crops, crop rotation, perennial forage crops, and zero or reduced tillage.

Lawn Maintenance: Fertilizers

Use a lawn fertilizer containing all three of the major materials required by the lawn nitrogen, phosphoric acid and potash. Most complete fertilizers are composed of simple chemicals quickly absorbed by the plants. These chemical fertilizers are the least expensive but must be applied with care or they can burn the grass. Natural, organic fertilizers release their food more slowly; they are more expensive but will not burn the lawn even if applied carelessly. Liquid fertilizers may be more convenient to apply and easier to store, but have no advantage over dry fertilizer for lawn feeding and are usually more expensive.

Barnyard manure should not be used on the lawn even if available without cost. It is low in nutrients and high in weed seed content. Commercially dried manures are relatively expensive for their value.

Fertilize your lawn in early spring and early fall. The spring application will give the grass a good start before the weeds and crabgrass can take hold. The fall application will give the grass food as it starts active growth again in the cool weather. During the summer, if the lawn looks poor, you may fertilize it using half the rate of the previous applications. Be particularly careful not to burn the grass, spread the fertilizer evenly when the grass is dry and sprinkle thoroughly to wash it off the grass blades.

A mechanical spreader is best for this work. Apply evenly or your lawn will become streaked. For specific amounts of the fertilizer to use, follow the manufacturer’s directions.

Plant a Wisteria Tree for a Colorful Accent

Wisteria is a beautiful climbing plant that is related to the pea family. It sends out tendrils that wind either clockwise or counter clockwise around any support that is available. It can climb high as well as spread out over a great distance. The largest known of its kind is in Sierra Madre, California and measures more than an acre in size. There are several different species available and they come in the purple shade as well as a beautiful white variety. If you prefer you can get it as a Wisteria Tree which will also keep it from spreading out. In the spring it will produce an abundance of beautiful clusters of lavender blooms. It does well in a wide range of soils and climates and in full or partial sun. As a tree you will have less maintenance just an occasional trim to keep a nice shape to the canape.

Flowering Shrubs That Look Great in All Seasons

We happen to live near a botanical garden and it has always been a favorite place for my family to visit. No matter what time of the year it is, something is always in bloom. The are so many types of plants that I often see some I didn’t even know existed. In the Winter, these gardens host a holiday light display. This display is so huge and so beautiful that people come from all over the country, even from overseas, to see it and take pictures. Because many of the plants grown here are Flowering Shrubs, it is easy to hang lights on them for an impressive winter display. In the spring I find the shrubs are thick with newly green foliage. And in the summer they fairly burst with multi-colored blooms. There doesn’t seem to be a season when they don’t look great. Flowering shrubs are lovely and versatile and easily grown by anyone, even novice gardeners.

How I Like to Spend My Perfect Summer’s Day

I love summer ’cause I get to wear nice dainty skirts and show off my legs. A perfect summer’s day would be going either to the park and take shade under one of the gazebos there, or go to the beach with my friends and go swimming there, topping up my tan and drinking cool drinks. I particularly love fresh fruit juices rather than soda drinks. I am big fan of pineapple drinks. So, me and my friends go to the beach, swim for sometime, drink some nice fruit juices and watch the sunset before returning home. It is much more fun when we go with all the friends and play some nice games like beach volleyball or Frisbee. By the time I’m home and the sun and sea air always makes me tired, and I get the deep sleep I always get after a day in the hot summer’s sun. That’s my idea of perfect summer day.

Selecting an Outdoor Garden Light

What probably draws your attention and appreciate a garden at night is on how well the lights were placed to play with the beauty of the garden and with the darkness of the surroundings.

The main reason why the garden becomes an art in itself once the lights are already lit up is because both light and colors were integrated in it. Just like art, the intent of garden lights is not to bask the garden with uniform light as what sunlight does but to illuminate some parts of the garden that must be highlighted to be noticed. If you have a water fountain in your garden, that might not really be noticed during the day but you can highlight it at night using specific garden lights.

There are actually various kinds of lights that can be placed. They generally fall under outdoor lights which mean that they are manufactured to be weatherproof and durable to withstand the rain and the sun. This is why selecting the right lights to install in your garden may not be directly pinpointed. The sun can actually work to your advantage when using solar garden lights.

Outdoor lights include, wall hanging, hanging lanterns, ground stake lights, lamp posts, and flushed lights. These lights have specific target locations in the garden. Wall hangings are fastened on garden walls. Hanging lanterns are either hanged along tree branches or any parts in the garden where the lights can be hanged. Ground stake lights on the other hand are set up on the ground and usually stand short. Lamp posts are the familiar lights that we mostly observe along the street except that with garden lamp posts, the lamps can be artistic and they can be hanged along a curved shaft of the post. Flushed lights are those lights assembled on the ground and their lights are directed upwards to cast light at a small and specific area in the garden.

My Preference For Wooden Garden Sheds

If you have a garden, you should consider building an garden tool shed for your garden. You will need a garden tool shed so that you can store all your garden tools in one place. It is quite unsightly to leave your garden tools out in the open so a garden tool shed will keep all your garden tools out of sight when they are not needed.

Personally, I prefer my garden tool shed to be made of wood rather than metal or plastic. I just find wooden storage sheds more classy. They definitely blend much better in the garden compared to metal storage sheds or vinyl storage sheds. Metal looks ugly and plastic just looks fake, in my opinion. But wooden garden sheds, on the other hand, gives you that type of cozy look that I really enjoy. So for me, I am definitely much more comfortable with building a wooden garden shed for my garden.
